Manchester United vs Chelsea

8 May 2011- Old Trafford, Manchester- 16.10 local kick off.

The destination of this season’s Premier League title could be decided this weekend when Manchester United host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. Bet on Man Utd vs Chelsea at PaddyPower after reading this preview at Sportsbookie.com.

United’s title hopes suffered a minor blow when they were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal last weekend. The Red Devils never really looked like troubling the Gunners, and had no excuses for the result at the final whistle. However they are still three points ahead of Chelsea with three to play, but a loss will mean that Chelsea will catch up on points going into the final two league fixtures of the season.

While their performance against Arsenal left much to be desired, United had no such problems in overcoming Schalke 04 in midweek. Despite putting out a second string side, with John O’Shea captaining the side, United romped home 4-1, with Anderson netting twice to win the tie 6-1 on aggregate.

Wayne Rooney and a host of other regulars, including Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand will return to the first XI, but Darren Fletcher’s virus is set to keep him out. That means Michael Carrick needs an excellent game in the centre of the park.

For Chelsea, winning the game against United will put their title hopes back into their own hands. Indeed if Chelsea do win at Old Trafford, they will seriously fancy their chances of winning the title, for it will come down to goal difference and goals scored if the two teams remain locked on the same number of points at the end of the season.

Chelsea and United did meet as recently as last month, with United eliminating Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. United’s big match temperament cannot be questioned, but few will argue that Chelsea are also playing better than they were a few weeks ago.

Verdict:- Chelsea will throw everything they have at this one, and should just end up sneaking home. Old Trafford is not an easy place to win, but the intensity of this occasion might just end up in Chelsea playing their best football of the season.

Manchester United 0-2 Chelsea ( Drogba, Lampard)

Southampton vs Man United

FA Cup Fourth Round- January 29, 2011- 17.15 UK time kick off

After producing an excellent comeback to beat Blackpool in midweek, Man United are in FA Cup action this weekend against Southampton. Bet on Southampton vs Man United after reading our betting preview at Sportsbookie.com.

United trailed 2-0 at one point of time against Blackpool but the introduction of Ryan Giggs and Javier Hernandez swung the game United’s way as they scored thrice in quick succession to complete a stunning 3-2 comeback win.

For this game against Southampton, Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to play without several first team regulars. Defender Rafael suffered an injury against Blackpool and has joined the likes of Hargreaves and Valencia in the treatment room.

Danish keeper Anders Lindergaard is likely to play under the sticks against Southampton with Dutch stopper Edwin van der Sar likely to be rested. Left back Patrice Evra may also be given a break.

Manchester United form- last five games- most recent first- Man United scorers in brackets-

Blackpool 2-3 Man United ( Berbatov*2, Hernandez)
Man United 5-0 Birmingham ( Berbatov*3, Giggs, Nani)
Tottenham 0-0 Man United
Man United 1-0 Liverpool ( Giggs)
Man United 2-1 Stoke ( Hernandez, Nani)

Danny N’Guessan is unavailable for Southampton as his parent club have declined him permission to play in the Cup for the Saints. Dean Hammond and Adam Lallana are both injury doubts

Fans will also get to see the young Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain in action. Chamberlain has been linked to both Man United and Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Verdict:- United’s defence has not been the strongest and with Ferguson expected to field a weak side, Southampton could certainly get on the scoresheet.

Even with a second string side, United have only lost once away all season and should have no problem beating Southampton.

Man United 2-0 Southampton ( Hernandez, Gibson)

Game :- Manchester United vs Stoke City

Old Trafford, Manchester

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Kick off time :- 20.00 UK

A day before their two current closest rivals for the title clash at the Emirates Stadium, reigning Premier League leaders Manchester United take on Stoke City at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Bet on Manchester United vs Stoke after reading our betting preview at Sportsbookie.com

United were ordinary against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon and were lucky to come away from the Hawthorns with a 2-1 win.

The Red Devils went ahead through striker Wayne Rooney, but were second best to West Brom for the rest of the first half. The Baggies front trio of Peter Odemwingie, Chris Brunt, James Morrison constantly caused United problems. Morrison equalised for WBA, who were left fuming when a blatant foul by Gary Neville on Graham Dorrans was ignored by the referee.

As luck would have it, West Brom got a penalty in the second half, but were unable to convert and Javier Hernandez again did an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he headed in a late winner.

Manchester United form- last five games- most recent first- Man United scorers in brackets-

West Brom 1-2 Man United ( Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez)
Birmingham 1-1 Man United ( Dimitar Berbatov)
Man United 2-0 Sunderland ( Dimitar Berbatov*2)
Man United 1-0 Arsenal ( Park Ji Sung)
Man United 1-1 Valencia ( Anderson)

Stoke City battled to a 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. A goal from Kenwyne Jones, brilliantly set up by Matty Etherington and an own goal from Everton’s Phil Jagielka’s saw the Potters win 2-0. They are now an impressive eighth in the league, ahead of the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Stoke City form- last five games- most recent first- Stoke scorers in brackets-

Stoke 2-0 Everton ( Jones, OG)
Stoke 0-2 Fulham
Blackburn 0-2 Stoke ( R.Huth, Marc Wilson)
Stoke 0-1 Blackpool
Wigan 2-2 Stoke ( Robert Huth, M.Etherington)

Stoke have won two and last two in their last four games. But United have the best home record in the league ( Nine wins and a draw out of ten) and it’ll be hard to see this game go any other way. Plus the fact that Stoke have not won against United in 26 years.

Manchester United 2-0 Stoke ( Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez)

January 1, 2011

12.45 Kick off- Hawthorns, West Brom

After being denied all three points by a controversial Lee Bowyer goal against Birmingham, Premier League leaders Manchester United will be looking for only their second away league win of the season when they meet West Brom.

Surprisingly for a club that is topping the table, United have managed only one league win away from home. However they have also not managed to lose a single league game away from Old Trafford.

Dimitar Berbatov has been in excellent nick for United recently ( eight of United’s last 11 premier League goals have come from him) and scored the only goal for them against Birmingham City. Strike partner Wayne Rooney is due for some goals and he will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing a defence that is currently without three of its best four.

Anderson had an off day against Birmingham after an excellent performance against Sunderland and will be keen to set the record straight.

Manchester United form- last five games- most recent first- Man United scorers in brackets-

Birmingham 1-1 Man United ( Dimitar Berbatov)
Man United 2-0 Sunderland ( Dimitar Berbatov*2)
Man United 1-0 Arsenal ( Park Ji Sung)
Man United 1-1 Valencia ( Anderson)
West Ham 4-0 Man United- League Cup

After an encouraging start to the season, West Brom seem to have lost their way. The Baggies are on a three game losing run, losing to Aston Villa, Bolton and Blackburn in December.

Defenders Gonzalo Jara, Jonas Olsson and Gabriel Tamas are all unavailable for West Brom but in form Chris Brunt returns after serving a one game suspension.

Verdict:- Man United to grab their second away win of the season at the Hawthorns.

West Brom 0-2 Manchester United ( Berbatov, Anderson)

After beating Arsenal last weekend, Manchester United will be hoping for a similar result when they take on Chelsea this weekend in the Premier League.
Manchester United took spot from Arsenal last weekend thanks to their 1-0 win over the Gunners. A first half header from Park Ji Sung was enough for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to claim victory over their bitter rivals. Park’s header was assisted by Nani, easily one of United’s more influential players this season.

Paul Scholes will be missing for this trip to Stamford Bridge and so are Michael Owen, Owen Hargreaves and Antonio Valencia. John O’Shea is also a doubt for this clash.

Fact:- Manchester United have not won against Chelsea away from home in the last eight years.

Manchester United form- last five games- most recent first- Man United scorers in brackets-

Man United 1-0 Arsenal ( Park)

Man United 1-1 Valencia CF ( Anderson)

West Ham 4-0 Man United- League Cup

Man United 7-1 Blackburn ( Dimitar Berbatov*5, Park, Nani)

Rangers 0-1 Man United ( Wayne Rooney)

Chelsea drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, although the draw could easily have become a win had Didier Drogba not missed a stoppage time penalty for the Blues.

Frank Lampard made a substitute appearance last weekend and could start against Man United to bolster a midfield that seems to rely very heavily on the talents of Michael Essien. The same goes for Didier Drogba.

Alex, Jose Bosingwa and Yossi Benayoun continue to be absentees.

Chelsea form- last five games- most recent first- Chelsea scorers in brackets-

Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea ( Didier Drogba)
Olympique Marseille 1-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 1-1 Everton ( Didier Drogba)
Newcastle 1-1 Chelsea ( Salomon Kalou)
Chelsea 2-1 Zilina ( Daniel Sturridge, Florent Malouda)
Birmingham 1-0 Chelsea

Verdict:- Chelsea’s day could hinge hugely on how Drogba and Lampard, particularly the latter play. United chose to pack the midfield against Arsenal to choke them of forward supply.

Verdict:- Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United ( Frank Lampard/ Wayne Rooney)
