England look a bit thin in defence. Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand is unavailable due to a back injury. Injuries have also kept Arsenal’s Ashley Cole and Liverpool’s Glen Johnson out of the squad. Due to the ongoing Terry-Bridge saga, Wayne Bridge chose not to be selected. In the absence of both Cole and Bridge, Capello has to choose between Leighton Baines and Stephen Warnock at left back.

Egypt come into this game on the back of a record seventh triumph at the African Cup of Nations. Coach Hassan Shehata has added Mohamed Aboutreika and Amr Zaki to his squad, which otherwise remains the same as the side that triumphed in Angola. There is no place for Mido.

Six time champions Egypt will look to make it three African titles in a row when they take on Milovan Rajevac’s Ghana in the finals of the 2010 African Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Ghana started off poorly as they were beaten by Ivory Coast but a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso was enough to see them qualify for the quarterfinals. They beat hosts Angola by the same margin in the last eight and again produced a repeat of the same against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the semifinals.

Critics have accused this Ghana team of being too negative- they have only scored four goals in this tournament. However their defence has kept a clean sheet in their last three games, thanks to some heroics from Richard Kingston between the sticks.

Ghana’s defence will be sorely tested when they meet Egypt, who have scored fourteen goals in five games en route to the final. The Pharaohs have managed to do this despite missing the likes of Aboutreika, Mido and Zaki and the way they routed Algeria in the semifinals would certainly have given Rajevac something to think about ahead of the final.

As you can see, Ghana’s scorers look predictable. There are the front duo of Amoah and Asamoah with the likes of Ayew supporting them. Compare this to Egypt and you’ll see why most pundits favour the Pharaohs going into this game.

Mohamed Nagy Geddo has really impressed since making his debut for Egypt in January this year against Mali. Despite not starting, he always seems to be able to get a goal to his name.

Verdict:- Egypt gave it their all against Algeria in the semifinals because they wanted revenge for the World Cup elimination. That could work to Ghana’s advantage. The Black Stars’ strategy will be simple and one should not expect to see many changes to that adopted against Angola and Nigeria.

Benin have left themselves with a lot of work to do after managing to collect only a single point from their first two games. They play a confident Egypt side who have already topped the group. Egypt might rest some key players ahead of this tie – something for the Squirrels to exploit.

Benin have been very strong in recent games but have failed when it mattered the most. They let slip a 2-0 lead against Mozmbique thanks to some poor goalkeeping by Yoaan Djidonou. The game against Nigeria was always going to be a difficult one. Romauld Boco handled the ball inside the penalty box to gift Nigeria a penalty which was slotted home by Yakubu. Sessegnon, Tchomogo, Omotoyossi and Kobena were very lively against Nigeria and Omotoyossi in particular would be the major threat for Egypt.

Benin need to win against Egypt to make it to the next round. But a win will not guarentee qualification. They would also need Mozambique to defeat Nigeria in the other game and hope that they have a better goal difference.

Egypt have been the best team in the tournament so far and have been the only team to have won all their games. The Egyptians even have an impeccable disciplinary record having not picked up a single yellow in their two games.

Match Verdict: I fancy Benin to get a point out of this game. But that wouldn’t be enough and will see them knocked out of the tournament.

Egypt were expected to find the going tough against a talented Nigerian side in their Group C opener. Fans of the Pharaohs feared the worst when Chinedu Obasi put Nigeria ahead in the 12th minute, but Hassan Shehata’s men managed to produce a memorable comeback. Goals from Emad Moteab, skipper Ahmed Hassan and Mohammed Gedo gave the reigning African champions a 3-1 victory. Hassan lead from the front, a far cry from the insipid performance put in by Nigerian skipper Joseph Yobo.

Six players in the camp-Ahmed Hassan, Wael Gomaa, Emad Moteab, Hosni Abd-Rabo, Hossam Ghaly,and Abdel-Aziz Tawfik have contracted flu. They missed training, but are likely to feature against Mozambique.

Mozambique drew 2-2 against Benin in their first group. They had Benin keeper Djidonou to thank for both their goals. Miro and Fumo were scorers for the Mambas as they recovered to take a point after being 2-0 down after twenty points. The side are yet to win a game in AFCON.

Egypt’s confidence would have been given a huge boost by their 3-1 win over Nigeria. Most people will expect them to stroll past the Mambas, and given the way Mozambique played in their group opener against Benin, one would not be surprised if the game ended in Egypt’s favour.

In a battle of two African heavyweights, defending champions Egypt take on a supremely talented Nigerian side in Group C on Tuesday evening.

Egypt have won the tournament in 2006 and 2008 and are bidding to make it a hattrick of titles. But Hasan Shehata’s men look beatable on paper, especially without the influential trio of Amr Zaki, Mohamed Aboutreika and Mido. That will put more pressure on the shoulders of Mohamed Zidan and Emad Moteab, who will spearhead Egypt’s attack.

It will be interesting to see whether Shehata choses to start with a 4-4-2 or a 3-5-2. Wael Gomaa and co. will have to be wary of the threat Nigeria will pose from set pieces. Super Eagles striker Yakubu is strong and powerful and can make life difficult for Egypt’s defenders when Nigeria swing the ball into the box.

Nigeria’s midfield is packed with strong players like John Obi Mikel, Seyi Olofinjana and Dickson Etuhu. How the likes of Ahmed Hassan, Hossam Ghaly and Hosni Abd Rabo fare against Mikel and co. will have a huge say in the outcome of the game.

Osaze Odemwingie has not yet recovered fully from his infection, and is unlikely to start against the Pharaohs. Hoffenheim’s Chinedu Obasi is likely to start in his place. There are also a few worries for coach Amodu in defence- Joseph Yobo is fighting against the clock to recover from injury while former QPR defender Danny Shittu is not match fit.
