Angola finished as winners of Group A, drawing with Mali and Algeria and beating Malawi. They scored four times against Mali and twice against Malawi but did not score against Algeria. Hosts Angola can book their spot in the last eight of the 2010 African Nations Cup if they avoid defeat against Algeria in Luanda on Monday.

Angola beat Malawi 2-0 in their second group game to make up for their disappointing draw against Mali. The hosts took the lead early in the second half through striker Flavio, who headed home powerfully from Djalma Campos’ cross. Manucho’s goal, which came six minutes later, was due to some poor play at the back from Malawi. Manucho stole the ball off Peter Mponda and coolly fired past Swadick Sanudi in the Malawian goal.

Match Verdict: Angola looked really strong in their opening tie before letting a 4 goal lead slip. I’d fancy them to improve defensively and bring Malawi down to earth.
