The Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed that interim coach Romeo Crennel has been appointed as the successor to the recently sacked Todd Haley.

Crennel, took charge of the team for the final three fixtures of the season, following the departure of Haley and finished with a 2-1 record from the matches, including a surprise victory against the then unbeaten Green Bay Packers. Fans of Betfair NFL should bear this in mind.

The Chiefs management say they were impressed by the way he stepped into the role and feel he’s done enough to prove he’s the right man for the job.

“The three games had a lot to do with where we arrived at this decision,” general manager Scott Pioli said. “Some of the things we saw was a great deal of accountability and consistency.

There was also a different energy to the football team. A lot of it had to do with those last three games.”

Crennel is known as one of the most personable coaches in the NFL and has certainly been a big hit with the Chiefs” players since joining the franchise in 2010 as their defensive co-ordinator. People looking at the Super Bowl 2012 betting should remember this.

Ironically his caring attitude was one of the reasons given for his dismissal in his only previous spell as a head coach at Cleveland but the 64-year-old feels he’s learned from the experience and is hoping his personality will help him lead Kansas to success.

“I think that basically, I’m a good guy” he said. “And I think this is what players appreciate—players appreciate honesty.

“Players appreciate you telling them like it is. They don’t always want to hear it. But that’s what they appreciate. I try to tell them what I believe, what I feel and how I think it should be done.”

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has insisted he will play in Sunday’s season finale against the New York Giants after returning to practice after picking up a hand problem.

Romo picked up the injury against Philadelphia but now says the problem is improving and he expects to be fit for the final football betting bonanza game of the regular season.

“It’s continuing to improve day by day,” Romo said on a conference call with the Giants’ media. “I was able to do some things with the ball we weren’t sure about. It should be good to go.”

Despite his positivity, coach Jason Garrett is unsure whether or not he’ll be available for the Giants game but says they’ll give him as much time as he needs.

“It’s still early,” Garrett said. “We hope that he progresses. He has progressed since the game, so we’ll see how he responds to the work today and hopefully he’ll do more work tomorrow and get himself ready to play this game. But we have to be ready for all alternatives.”

Romo was forced to wear a glove for the stretching part of practice in order to keep compression on the top of his hand to try and quell the swelling but took it off when practicing his passing. The 31-year-old has a reputation for playing through the pain barrier after played with a broken rib earlier this season in the latest line of injuries he’s had since starting his career. The NFL bets have taken that into account and have backed him to play through the pain barrier.

Teammate Jason Witten says he is impressed by how his teammate always seems to come through whatever his ailment and has praised his commitment to the cause.

“He does a good job of not allowing those things get in the way of what we need to do,” Witten said. “You’d probably have to ask him the details, but on the receiving end of it, he was as good as he always is.”

As shocking as it may seem, interest in the NFL across the pond in the UK is rapidly increasing, with Wembley (the country’s largest and most iconic sport stadium) pretty much selling out every time the NFL has visited the nation and plenty of punters interested in football betting.

Now, though, after a local soccer team (West Ham United) managed to secure and then lose the right to inhabit the new Olympic stadium in the English capital following the conclusion of the 2012 games, bidders from a range of organisations and sport teams have started to reiterate their interest in running the stadium.

Despite the fact that there would be a huge number of logistical problems involved with an NFL team being based permanently in the UK, all of the signs hint at there being enough interest in the country to be able to sell out the stadium and build a fan base that, in the long term at least, would be able to rival that of more traditional British sports such as soccer and rugby.

If the NFL rules that it is time to start up another franchise, and in the process decides that the UK is the right place to do it, then surely there would be no better idea than to home the new franchise in a stadium that will be left uninhabited come next summer. However, although the timing seems ideal, there’s no doubt that at least one of the organisations involved would try to do their best to deny the UK public access to NFL games, despite British sport fans clearly developing a taste for both watching and wanting to bet on NFL matches after several years of being handed a small taste of the action.

Although the challenges to any UK-based team would be huge, surely for the NFL to become the world’s game, it needs to rise to conquer these challenges no matter what the hurdles that lay before them.

Having already thrown a quite fantastic 4,593 yards through a total of 14 games, the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady will no doubt realise that he is in with a decent chance of beating Dan Marino’s stunning record of 5,084 yards, achieved way back in 1984.

Although the ever-humble Brady continues to reiterate the fact that he is simply one small part of a team that works together effectively to tot up terrific scores, the fact remains that he is already likely to be considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, if not the greatest and a number of NFL bets have been placed on him beating Marino’s record. That said, he would still surely love to be able to boast possession of the record for most yards thrown in a season, if only to help him stake an even stronger claim to the title of the best ever quarterback to grace the NFL.

If Brady fails to achieve the record this year, he’ll know that there are a few other players capable of grabbing it away from him, including Drew Brees, who is not too far away. Although Brees could well achieve the record this season, those who bet on NFL know that the team surrounding Brady is arguably superior to that of any of his close rivals, meaning that when he makes an awesome play, he knows his team-mates will be in the right place at the right time to support him and make the play count.

Whatever the outcome of the current season, Brady will know that records are made to be broken, but perhaps he won’t care so much about beating Marino’s fantastic record; he may be more concerned with helping the New England Patriots work their way into the record books as this season’s Super Bowl winners.

What a career, what resilience, and WHAT a stunning turnaround! That is surely the only way to describe the current situation regarding San Francisco 49ers veteran QB Alex Smith.

Starting as the number one prospect after being picked first and then blooded immediately into the starting roster, Smith faded badly and ended up having to settle for a far worse contract than his initial deal suggested. Having been told that if he wanted to stick around at San Fran he would have to sign up or be shipped out sharpish, Smith has managed to withstand all the changes, drops, being reselected for the starting line up, and then being dropped again to defy the football betting and keep on coming.

All of this may well have pushed weaker characters to give up, with the thought that enough is enough, but not Alex Smith. Amazingly, Smith is now being seriously considered for a starting role at the Pro Bowl, and has managed to guide the 49ers to a position where they have a fantastic opportunity to get a bye round, or at the very least home field advantage. Although that wouldn’t be so great for some teams, it certainly marks a real return to form for a franchise that has endured more pain than it would care to admit in recent years.

If Smith can make it to Hawii and find himself selected by his peers, the press, those who bet on NFL games and most importantly the fans, whose opinions count more than anything, then surely he can start to feel that it has all been worth it at last, despite the pain and misfortune he has had to endure along the way.
