The Villans suffered a drubbing at the hands of Newcastle United in
their last outing in the BPL. Kevin MacDonald started his career as

thrashing followed by elimination from the Europa Cup has put his job
in the balance. With only Fabian Delph missing from injury the Villans
have almost their full squad to choose from for the match. Stephen Ireland will make his home debut for Villa in the Premier League.

Everton have started the season in a disappointing manner and are
still looking for their first win. The Toffees have Yakubu, Phil Neville
and Victor Anichebe out with injury problems but still have a strong enough squad. New signing Jermain Beckford scored his first goal in the
Carling Cup and should continue his form in the league as well,
particularly in the absence of Yakubu.

Although Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has not always made himself the most popular man in the Premier league, his frank admission that he is worried about the state of his club’s attendances will resonate with many fans of the Premier League.

With Wigan only able to attract 14,000 fans to a home tie against Premier League giants Chelsea, and with clubs across the league having a far harder task this summer in persuading fans to purchase season tickets, is it possible that the Premier League has finally reached its limit in persuading fans to come to games?

With Sky and ESPN showing more matches than ever before on television, as well as Premier League clubs’ continued insistence to charge extortionate fees to fans who wish to attend games, fans of Arsenal football club now have to spend up to £96 to view a game against top sides at the Emirates, the problem is clear for all to see.

The recession is still causing massive problems for many football fans financially and, with clubs refusing to lower prices for tickets to games, the Premier League is running a real risk of undoing all the good work it has put in to make itself the most successful league in the world.  Of course, it doesn’t help that Wigan are Andy Gray Betfair Football tips for relegation, but they’re not the only side having problems getting fans through the gates.

Two weeks into the season and Liverpool’s pre-season turnaround may already be over, arguably before it even began.

Having started the season with new signing Joe Cole enduring the humiliation of a debut sending off, followed by a poor team performance in the Europa League, and topped off by the fact that Jose Mourinho has already had a pop at the Merseyside club, Liverpool fans may be forgiven for already feeling that their pre-season optimism was misplaced.

With Monday night’s 3-0 trouncing by rivals Manchester City being overshadowed by the disgraceful behaviour of Javier Mascherano who was left out of the side by new boss Roy Hodgson after he failed to clear his head of transfer speculation, the new boss will be fully aware of the enormity of the task that he has undertaken at Anfield. The Betfair Football predictions suggest they will struggle to make the top four.

With Hodgson widely predicted to be the next England manager should he enjoy a successful spell in charge of the Reds, any thoughts of a future career move will need to be put on hold as he undertakes one of the toughest tasks of his career. With the club’s ownership still not decided, and the club still failing to move into their proposed new stadium, funds are limited for Hodgson as he looks to improve his squad which is largely the same as the one that failed to earn itself Champions League football last season.

With fans of Liverpool having initially decided to give their full backing to the new boss, Hodgson will be aware that if the current circus continues to surround the club on and off the pitch, he as well as the board will start to come under increasing pressure from the club’s faithful.

Meanwhile, few people have made Hull City betting tips to return to the Premier League.

The side are still being dogged by financial problems and it could be years before they return to the top flight.

Whilst last weekend’s Premier League refereeing decisions have led to a renewed call for the introduction of video technology by those who analyse football betting odds, the question as to whether or not referees want the technology are still to be answered.

With video replays already leaving referees red faced after making poor decisions, imagine how Chris Foy would have felt re-watching footage that revealed he had clearly failed to spot an obvious foul in the build-up to the ‘goal that wasn’t’ at the Britannia Stadium.

With the public, pundits, players, and managers all agreeing that technology is the answer, the decision as to the extent to which technology should be used, rather than if technology should be used at all, is currently the main subject of debate. However, with ex-referee Dermot Gallagher making a clear distinction about ‘judgement’ and ‘factual’ calls for a referee to make, the line seems to be blurred when it comes to blatant violations of the rules of football being inadvertently reviewed if a referee chooses to use technology to check a ‘factual’ decision.

Premier League referees already appear to receive a minimum of respect from a large number of Premier League stars, so a referee who was seen to be making a poor decision in the lead up to reviewing a ‘factual’ call would be liable to face a very difficult scenario when making decisions for the duration of the game in question.

With technology available, and easy and quick to use, the idea of a challenge system for all types of decisions is surely the most sensible way forward. However, with UEFA continuing to resist any introduction of technology in the sport, don’t expect the debate to end just yet.

Meanwhile, the Premier League favourite odds to win are hotting up at the moment with Chelsea leading the way, closely followed by Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Javier Mascherano has become the latest in a long line of players to make a mockery of their club.

Liverpool boss   Roy Hodgson was yesterday forced to admit he had no idea where the want-away star was after he refused to pick him for last night’s match against Manchester City.

Earlier in the evening reports had been circulating that the Argentinean, who is thought to be subject to a £12 million bid from Barcelona, had refused to play for his current club.

Hodgson denied this and revealed the player had been left out because he was not in the right frame of mind.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Hopefully matters will be resolved before the end of the transfer window and I’ll be able to pick him again.

“I don’t know where he is tonight but he’s not here with us.”

Whatever the reason for Mascherano’s omission from the side last night it seems clear that he is desperate for a move away from the club.

With £12 million being nowhere near Liverpool’s valuation of him though, he may be forced to sit tight unless a better offer comes in. You can follow the saga with Betsplayer.com.

It’s all a far cry from just last week when Hodgson claimed the player understood that he would not be let go in a cut price deal.

Just how this saga will end remains to be seen, but if past players v clubs transfer sagas are anything to go by then it seems probably that Mascherano will win out in the end.
