NFL Football: Divisional Playoffs – My Saturday Picks
Posted on | January 5, 2008 | No Comments
The playoffs are finally here. After suffering through last week when nothing really mattered (except for the Skins and Titans), this week everything matters. We’ll have 2 games on Saturday and then 2 more games on Sunday. All of these teams will be playing for the right to move on to New England, Indianapolis, Dallas, or Green Bay in the Divisional Playoffs next.
Let’s get started with my picks.
Washington Redskins at Seattle Seahawks
This is a very interesting match-up and it’ll be a lot of fun to watch.
The Seahawks have only won one game over a winning team this year. They have really looked bad in a couple of their games, especially late in the season.
The Redskins on the other hand have been playing very good football. After being left for dead a little over a month ago, the Skins have suddenly won four straight games to get into the playoffs.
The one big factor in this game is that Seattle is at home. The Seahawks are a totally different team at home then they are on the road. The weather is going to be nasty and the Seahawks know how to play in this weather.
Meanwhile, I’m still not completely sold on the Redskins. They’ve beat teams that either have nothing to play for (Dallas) or that proved themselves to be chokers (Minnesota).
In the end, I think the Redskins’ run comes to an end in this one. I like the Seahawks experience and I think the Redskins think that they (meaning the Skins) are better than they really are.
My Pick: Seahawks 23-10
Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers
This is a re-match of a game that was played just a few weeks ago. The Jags went into Pittsburgh and came away with a big win. The Steelers are swearing that they won’t let the Jags run on them again. The Steelers are promising that they’ll play better football this time around.
Meanwhile, the Jags have been a very good football team all season. They’ve been playing very well, especially the last several weeks of the season. I actually think that the Jags are the third best team in the AFC.
On the other hand, I don’t think the Steelers are that good. I think they were one of the most overrated teams in the NFL this year.
Though the Steelers might promise they’ll play the Jags tougher, I just don’t think they have it in them.
My Pick: Jaguars 27-17
