NFL Football: Week 17 Review and Looking to the Playoffs

Well the regular season has now come and gone. There are only memories to be held and nothing else. And what memories we had with New England going 16-0. They have set a record that no other team has ever set – they won 16 regular season games while losing none. But you know what? All that means nothing now that they’re in the playoffs. If they don’t win the Super Bowl, they’ll be the butt of many jokes – nothing more.

The thing that surprised me was how much the Patriots celebrated on Saturday night. You would’ve thought they just won the Super Bowl or at least a chance to play in the Super Bowl. But they didn’t win a single thing. Nothing. And now we’ll see what happens in the playoffs.

The same can be said for the Washington Redskins. They were dead in the water after losing their best player in a tragic murder. But they rebounded and now they’re in the playoffs after beating an uninspired Dallas team on Sunday. If you listened to the Redskins, you’d think they are the best team in the NFL right now. Amazing how four wins in a row can do that. Look out Patriots! Oh yeah… the Skins already played them and lost 52-7 or something ridiculous like that. Well then, look out Cowboys. Oh yeah, the Skins lost to them too when both teams played their starters. Well, then look out Seahawks. Oh yeah, the Seahawks are at home… Oh well, we’ll see what happens in the playoffs.

You see, that’s the beauty of the playoffs, nothing else matters once that ball is kicked off. The players have to make plays on the football field. If they make more plays than their opponents then they win. If not, they go home and start preparing for next year.

So on Saturday things will be lead off with the Washington Redskins at the Seattle Seahawks. That will be followed by a night game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. Then on Sunday the New York Giants will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans will visit the San Diego Chargers.

We will talk a lot more about these games as the week progresses. They should all be good match-ups. It could very well be the weekend of the visiting team winning a lot!
