NFL Football: Week 16 Review

Tomorrow I’ll take a look at how I did with my picks (after the Monday nighter between the Chargers and the Broncos). But for today, I would like to take a look at a couple surprises that occurred on Sunday.
The biggest surprise of the day came when the Green Bay Packers were throttled by the Chicago Bears. Even more surprising was the performance of Brett Favre and his post-game comments. For the very first time in his career, Favre looked cold. He looked like he was affected by it and he obviously was – his 9 yards passing in the first half proves that.
After the game, Favre said that was the worst weather he’s ever played in.
What?
I don’t think so. But I am sure it felt like the worst weather he’s ever played in. As a person gets older, that person begins to feel the cold more and more. So even though Favre is still as effective as ever, his body can’t handle the cold like it once did.
You may be thinking, “So what?” But his is a huge deal. If Favre feels the cold weather come playoff time – as he most certainly will – then the Pack could be one and done in the playoffs. That’s right, I may just pick the Packers to lose in their first playoff game (but first I’ll wait to see who they’ll be playing).
The other big surprise came on Sunday night. The Washington Redskins dominated the Minnesota Vikings. I thought the Redskins might give a good fight but I didn’t think the Skins would dominate the Vikings. But that’s just what they did. Now all Washington has to do next week is beat the Dallas Cowboys. Normally that would be a very tough game but with the Cowboys resting many of their starters (since they already clinched home-field in the NFC), I think the Skins will almost certainly win the game.
So as we head into the final week of the regular season, the Cowboys, Packers, Bucs, Seahawks, and Giants are all in the playoffs. The Skins, Vikings, and possibly the Saints are in line for the last spot.
The Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Steelers, and Jaguars are in the playoffs. The Titans and the Browns are still alive for the final spot. If the Titans can beat the Colts (another team who’ll be resting many of their starters) then the Titans are in.
