NFL Football: Week 16 Preview

Posted on | December 22, 2007 | No Comments

Tonight the match-up on NFL Network will be between the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are mathematically alive for the playoffs still, but they aren’t going to make it. The Dallas Cowboys are already in the playoffs, they already clinched their division, and they already clinched a first round bye. But they still need to assure themselves of being at home for the playoffs. And to do that, they need to win tonight.

But tonight’s game is even more important than just clinching home field advantage. The Cowboys haven’t looked good in the past couple weeks and not they need to prove that they aren’t fading here at the end of the regular season.

Two weeks ago the Cowboys barely got by the Detroit Lions. If it wasn’t for a last-second drive by Tony Romo and the Cowboys, Dallas would be on a two game losing streak right now. They’d also be on the outside looking in for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Tony Romo is normally very good natured and open with the media. However, this week he hasn’t spoken to the media. There’s been a lot of conjecture that he’s upset about TO making fun of his girlfriend, Jessica Simposon, or that his thumb is worse than the Cowboys are letting on. But I think Romo is angry with the way he played last week. I think we’re going to learn even more about Romo tonight.

This is a big game for both the Cowboys and for Tony Romo. Certainly nothing will be officially decided after the game but we will know whether Dallas is still the team to beat in the NFC.

Tonight I think Dallas will commit to run more than they have the past couple of weeks. That way they can use the play-action-pass more. They can also keep their defense off the field more.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers are starting undrafted rookie quarterback Matt Moore. He looked decent last week in the Panthers’ win against the Seattle Seahawks but I don’t think he’s going to be as successful against the Cowboys tonight.

In the end I think Dallas is just more talented in this game and they will return to their mid-season form.

My Pick: Cowboys 28-13
