NFL Football: Week 15 – Preview and Another Pick

This is a great time of the year for NFL fans. With college football (Division I) not yet into its Bowl Season, the NFL now begins playing a game on Saturday nights. That means there will be NFL football four days of the week – Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Tonight’s game will feature the Cincinnati Bengals visiting the San Francisco 49ers. Though neither one of these teams are any good, at least it’s football – well, it will be most of the time. But because this game doesn’t really mean anything and features a couple of underachieving teams, that’s all I’m going to say about it until I make my pick at the end.
One game that I am looking forward to watching is the Buffalo Bills traveling to Cleveland to take on the Browns. With a win the Browns and a Titans loss the Browns can clinch a playoff spot. However, if the Bills win they’ll suddenly be right in the middle of the playoff hunt. In fact, the Bills will then be 8-6 and they’ll be tied with the Browns.
Two more games I’m looking forward to watching are the Patriots hosting the Jets and the Jaguars visiting the Steelers. I saw an interview with Jaguars’ QB, David Garrard, this week and he was saying how he likes “flying under the radar” that they’re fine with that and they care about is the playoffs. Well, they aren’t flying under the radar at all. The reason why nobody mentions them with the Pats, Colts, and Steelers is because the Jags have lost every big game they’ve played in the last couple of years. But they can change that Sunday if they beat the Steelers.
With the Pats and Jets game, the only question is: How bad will the weather be? Will it be bad enough to keep the game close? And if it is bad, will the Pats be able to opeate effectively. Most people seem to think they will be able to but I’m not so sure. What happens if Brady can’t just launch the ball up to Moss? More importantly, what happens if the threat of the long ball is removed and the defense is able to concentrate on the underneath stuff? It might be interesting.
Back to tonight’s game. I like the Bengals because I think they’re a little less bad than the 49ers.
My Pick: Bengals 27-16
