NFL Football: Week 12 – Thanksgiving Picks

Posted on | November 22, 2007 | No Comments

Since it’s Thanksgiving here in the Unites States, that means there are three football games today – turkey and football is there a better combo in the world?

So, I will give my picks (and a little extra analysis) for the first three games. Then I’ll give the rest of my picks on Sunday, as usual.

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

Will the Brett Favre magic continue or will the Lions take another huge step toward respect?

Regardless of the outcome of this game, the Packers will be playing in Dallas for the inside track for home field advantage in the NFC playoffs. I think the Packers probably feel like they have something to prove even though they are 9-1. Most people seem to think the Cowboys are the best team in the NFC. If the Packers win these next two games, they’ll definitely be the best team in the NFC.

I like the Packers in this one but it’ll be close – perhaps a last second field goal.

My Pick: Packers 27-24

New York Jets at Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are looking to go 10-1 for the first time in their storied franchise history. The Jets are coming off a win against the Steelers.

It looks like Dallas will be without Wide Receiver Patrick Crayton who has a sprained ankle. That means they’ll have to count on #4 wide receiver Sam Hurd to step into the starting line-up. #5 receiver, Miles Austin will also get significant snaps for the first time all season. I think Dallas will try to rely heavily on their running game with Julius Jones and Marion Barber. But TO is healthy and so is Romo, so you know there will be some fireworks in the passing game.

The Jets need to protect their young QB Clemons against what will certainly be some exotic blitzes from Dallas. It’ll be a tough assignment.

I like Dallas in this one.

My Pick: Cowboys 27-17

Indianapolis Colts at Atlanta Falcons

The Colts have been struggling lately. They are suffering from numerous injuries. But they are beginning to get a little healthier and I think they are going to take it out on the Falcons.

It’s a tough task for a defense to prepare for Peyton Manning in three days. I don’t think the Falcons will be prepared nearly enough.

I think the Colts will get back on track in a big way.

My Pick: Colts 37-7
