NFL Football: Week 11 – Recap

There were a few surprises on Sunday. The playoff picture continues to take shape and some of last year’s best teams could very well be on the outside looking in when the playoff picture is complete. These teams include the San Diego Chargers, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Philadelphia Eagles, though the Eagles did manage to squeek by the hapless (and winless) Miami Dolphins.
A team that is certainly going to the playoffs is the New England Patriots. Could I make a more obvious statement?
I’ve somewhat avoided giving New England as much love as some of the media is giving them because I think (or thought before last night) that going undefeated in the NFL just never happens. Every year there is a team that makes a run at perfection and every year that team runs in to at least on hiccup. I thought New England would run into the same thing.
Then I watched the Pats and the Bills play on Sunday night. It was unbelievable.
The Patriots were so dominant that I now have to believe that this team may very well go undefeated. They just don’t make mistakes and they make the most out of every possession. What’s more is that they often get into at least one third and long on a drive and then they suddenly complete a pass for 20 yards. This frustrates the defense because just as they think they’ve finally gotten the Pats and the defense will finally make a stop, the Pats just keep rolling.
Now, let me make one thing clear – I can’t stand Bill Bellichick. I also can’t stand the Pats (because of Bellichick). They were clearly caught cheating in the first game of the season. They received a slap on the wrist from the NFL. Yet Bellichick refused to make a comment on the situation even though he promised he would. But that’s okay, Bellichick has made a career out of telling half-truths and outright lies just to give his team and perceived edge (he was punished for keeping hurt players off the injured list and now he includes healthy players on the injury list).
But the biggest problem I have is the way the Pats often run up the score on their opponents. And though I don’t wish harm on any player, I do think it would be fitting if Brady or Moss or another of the Pats’ stars got injured while in the game way too late.
Injuries are the only way the rest of the NFL has a chance to beat the Pats. Barring injuries, I think we might be looking at the best team in NFL history.
