NFL Football (3): Week 9 – The Day Before the Storm

Posted on | November 3, 2007 | No Comments

Now we have one more day before the big showdown between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. What a battle this game should be and it will also let fans know just how good the New England Patriots are.

There are more than a few people in the media saying that the Patriots have a real chance to go undefeated. These people look at the fact that the Pats have crushed all their competition so far and the fact that Patriots are on pace to shatter the season scoring record. But I think that’s just crazy talk.

Part of the reason why the Patriots are scoring so many points is because they are scoring a lot of touchdowns late in the game – after the game has been decided. And we’re not talking about them marching methodically down the field either. We’re talking about them throwing deep on teams after their opponents have given up because they are behind by three touchdowns. And we’re also talking about them scoring touchdowns with less than fifteen seconds left in the game when they could easily take a knee.

Sure, it helps the Pats pad their stats. It fools these media people who only look at the stats and don’t bother to take notes during a game. But it doesn’t fool the real fans.

I know why the Pats are doing it. It’s because of the fact that Belichick was caught cheating earlier in the season. He feels like he has something to prove. Well, the only thing he has to prove is that he isn’t classless. But oh wait, of course he’s classless, he keeps running up the score on teams.

I’m just waiting for Brady to be in the game way too late and for some blitzing linebacker to come through and separate Brady’s shoulder or break his collar bone. Of course I don’t want this to happen, but I do wonder what people will think of Belichick when that happens. And if he keeps leaving his starters in past the point when it’s necessary, he will lose one of them to injury. Mark my words: it’s only a matter of time.

But Sunday should not be a blowout, and if it is, I might just be forced to reevaluate and get on board with the people who think the Pats can run the table and go undefeated. But then again, the Pats will have to go through some really good teams in the playoffs, such as the Colts again. But if they can romp the Colts tomorrow…. Well, honestly I don’t even want to think about that.
