NFL Football: Week 9 – The Battle of the Unbeatens

Posted on | November 2, 2007 | No Comments

Everyone in the world of the NFL is looking forward to the match-up between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts at 4:15 EST. It’s the battle between last year’s Super Bowl champions (the Colts) and the team that most people believe will be this year’s Super Bowl winners (the Patriots). It is a battle between two undefeated teams. This match-up is being billed as the “Battle of the Unbeatens” and as “Super Bowl 41.5”. Regardless what you want to call it, this should be a great, GREAT game.

The game within this game is going to be a showdown between the quarterbacks. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are the two best quarterbacks in the NFL right now – and they probably have been for the past few years. Manning holds many of the single season records but Brady is threatening to break those records this year. Though this fact does make the game even more interesting, it doesn’t really make a real difference.

What does make a real difference is the fact that both of these guys are deadly accurate and they are both awesome team leaders. On the face of this game, it would seem like the game may just come down to who plays better, Brady or Manning. But let’s not discount these two defenses.

Both New England and Indianapolis have very good defenses. Though they are overshadowed, these defenses can play. But it is when looking at the defenses that the winner of this game may be found.

New England’s defense has looked vulnerable at times this year. They have given up their fair share of points, though it hasn’t mattered because the Pats offense is always scoring in the 40s. But it might matter his week. I just don’t think the Pats defense is going to have a whole lot of success against the Colts offense.

So I know the Pats fans are going to say “so what, out offense will score tons of points.” Well, they will score, I think that is pretty mush a given in every game this season. With Moss, Stallworth, and Welker running routes for Brady, this offense is going to score. However, I think the Colts have someone that can help them out a ton and that is safety Bob Sanders. Sanders can play the run but more importantly he can cover. And it just might be his job to cover Welker. And this just might slow down the Pats offense.

And that is where we’ll stop for today and where we’ll pick things up for tomorrow.
