Preakness Stakes

Posted on | May 17, 2006 | No Comments

It seems like a long time ago when the 132nd running of the Kentucky Derby took place. Out of the large field of twenty horses arose one horse—Barbaro—who made the race look like play time. Barbaro amazed many horse racing fans as he charged ahead of the group and claimed a solid victory after resting for more than a month. He became the first horse is fifty years to accomplish such a feat.

On Saturday, Barbaro will race in the 2nd leg of the triple crown—The Preakness Stakes. The race will take place at Pimlico Racecouse in Baltimore and it looks promising for Barbaro. The field is going to be small. This time Barbaro has just two weeks rest. Will Barbaro still be the same commanding horse? We will have to wait until Saturday to find out.

If Barbaro wins the Preakness Stakes, he will become just the 30th horse in history to put together the first two parts of the Triple Crown. There’s little doubt that he will be a favorite for Saturday’s race—both on the board and in the hearts of watchers. It’s been twenty-seven long years since the sport of horse racing has seen a Triple Crown winner and horse racing fans all over the world are hoping this is the year. Barbaro should be overflowing with confidence as he comes out of the gate. As for betting, there probably won’t be any money to be made off of Barbaro, so look at other horses that may place or show—or possibly upset.
