Still Waiting for Bonds
I don’t know about you, but I am getting tired of watching Giants games waiting for Barry Bonds to hit homer number 714. Games are flying by and the most he can muster is a single or double shot to the outfield. Many of his at bats are lackluster and the rest of the league has got to see that this one giant is breaking down. He’s no longer the feared hitter he once was and teams are doing him a service by walking him.
It’s painful to watch Bond try and walk down to first base or jog to get a fly ball. You can see his body has quit on him. The steroids have taken their toll and it’s time for Bonds to call it a day. Still, we wait endlessly for the next home run to leave the bat of Bonds—whenever that might be. If historical performance means anything as a guide, Bonds should homer within the next few games.
Bond has been pushing himself to get 714 ever since he watched 713 sail over the fence. He has not been taking his usual rest and the fact that 714 has taken so long is bothering him. It’s quite possible that he takes some extended time off once 714 clears the fence. In fact, once 715 goes over the wall and puts him solely in second place, he might call it a career. His body just can’t handle daily play anymore. If Bonds wants to extend his career, he may make the move to the AL and become a DH. The might give him another couple of years and it will definitely be easier on the old body.
