Levi destroys Black Caps

Richard Levi smashed his way into the record books with a sensational 45 ball century, as South Africa eased to an eight-wicket victory against New Zealand in the second match of the three game T20 series. The tourists reached their target of 174 without too much trouble, with Levi’s blockbuster innings taking the game away from New Zealand in Hamilton.
The opening batsman was making just his second international appearance, but his innings of 117 from 67 deliveries should now ensure he is given a long run in this Proteas team. The 24-year old will certainly have made the cricket world stand up and take notice, and Levi will now be looking to maintain his place his new found spotlight. Levi’s opening 50 came from just 25 deliveries, with the second half-century coming off just 20 balls, the Kiwi bowlers being smashed to all parts of the Hamilton ground, earning the fastest ever T20 international century, as well as the highest T20 international score.
New Zealand posted a decent total of 173-3 from their 20 overs, with Martin Guptil’s rapid 47 giving the Kiwis a platform to reach a defendable target. The South Africans were at one point reduced to 41-2 when Hashim Amla and Wayne Parnell lost their wickets. Levi held his nerve when the pressure began to mount, however, keeping his focus and continuing to plunder runs with a wide variety of powerful shots.
