Lefty dreaming of more Major titles

Posted on | February 21, 2012 | No Comments

Phil Mickelson has achieved huge things in world golf during an illustrious career, but the US star is dreaming of more Major wins and who would bet against him doing just that at Augusta in April.

The 41-year-old is among an illustrious few who have claimed 40 PGA Tour victories and has won four Majors throughout his life as a professional – and three US Masters titles at the beautiful Augusta National Country Club, in 2004, 2006 and 2010. Fans of Betfair should remember this.

The talented left-hander was also was elected into the World Golf Hall of Fame in November 2011 and will be inducted in May 2012, so there remains a chance he could have a fourth green jacket by the time in ceremony rolls around.

In 2011 the closest Mickelson got to a Major title was at the British Open, with the golfing legend tied for second at Royal St George’s after charging into a share of the lead only to eventually lose out to Darren Clarke. Those looking at the US Masters Golf Odds will be wondering if he can push on this season.

Despite having achieved more by 41 than most of his peers, Mickelson admits he is far from done and is desperate to add more trophies to a glittering CV over the coming years.

“I want to try to win more tournaments and more major championships. I love competing. It’s been frustrating when I haven’t been in contention,” said the US star.

“And so the motivation is I want to get those opportunities. I want to have more of those opportunities and see if I can finish them off.”

There is still a host of players looking to qualify for the 2012 Masters and there remain opportunities to get in, as the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking published during the week prior to the US Masters are all eligible to compete at Augusta.
