San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs

Posted on | May 14, 2006 | No Comments

It’s game three between the Padres and Cubs. The Padres have won the first two games and the Cubs are looking to avoid the home sweep. Yesterday’s game was a heartbreaker for the Cubs, who lost a game that was almost in the books. The Cubs are sending left-hander Rich Hill to the mound to avoid the sweep. The Padres are looking to keep the ball rolling and they are putting Clay Hensley on the mound. The first game of this series was an offensive showcase as the Padres won 10-5. Yesterday’s game finished 4-3 in dramatic fashion.

These two teams played a four game series in San Diego at the beginning of this month and the Padres took all four games—so the Cubs are 0-6 verses the Padres already this season. Rich Hill was basically a relief pitcher. He has two outings this year—4 innings and 6 innings. In both outings he surrendered five earned runs, gave up home runs and allowed walks. He has not looked good at all.

Clay Hensley has looked pretty decent this season. He started off with a string of relief appearances and moved into the starter role in the latter part of April. He looks to have the ability to go six innings. In a starter role, he will most likely give up 3-4 runs and a few walks. Today’s game basically features guys who were relief pitchers and are now starting pitchers. The Padres are -122 in this one and the line has moved slightly to the Cubs, who are now +112.
