Buena Vista looking good for Pertemps charge

Buena Vista goes into the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival looking for his third consecutive win in the race.

David Pipe’s 11-year-old will be aiming to match the record set by Willie Wumpkins in 1981 for the most wins in the contest.

Buena Vista’s stablemate Our Father is also set to run next month to try and maintain Pipe’s good record in the handicap race over hurdles. Number one stable jockey Timmy Murphy is likely to choose Our Father as his preferred runner following that success last time out. Those betting on Betting on 2012 Cheltenham need to bear this in mind.

There are eight qualifying races open to entries in the Pertemps series with one remaining leg still to be ran at Haydock later in the month.

The favourite for this year’s renewal of the Pertemps Final is Sivola De Sivola. The six-year old was an impressive winner of the qualifier at Newbury in November where he came home five lengths ahead of the field after going off 7/2 favourite.

Sivola De Sivola has already run at Prestbury Park this season in what was in his second start of the campaign where he finished fifth behind Fingal Bay in the Hyde Novices’ Hurdle. People looking at the Cheltenham festival racing should remember this.

As you would expect, Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls has a leading chance in this race with Poungach. The French-bred runner chased home Oscar Whiskey on New Year’s Day at Cheltenham on his latest start. He does have two wins to his name this season though, and that includes the Petermps Series Qualifier at Sandown in December. Nicholls is yet to win the prestigious series which has been running since 1974 when Kastrup won the very first title.
