France bid to win back the trophy they lost

Posted on | February 9, 2012 | No Comments

Although, as we all of course know, the English are the reigning champions, the Six Nations Championship trophy was won only two years ago by a French side that firmly believes the trophy should be in their possession every year, and are as such truly desperate to regain it in 2012.

France were handed a pretty easy first fixture in the tournament this year but to their credit managed to shrug any potential complacency aside by pulling off a decent display against an Italian side who are in effect just making up the numbers this year (as per usual), but this weekend is the time for the French to prove to their opponents that they are not to be trifled with, either on or off the pitch. Anyone following the Betfair Six Nations betting odds will know they look to be a real force.

If the French do, as expected, improve both as a team and as individuals as the tournament goes on over the next six weeks or so, then we will be presented with a side that can provide a formidable and sustained challenge to the confident Welsh and youthful English teams currently hoping to be the main competition for the France side. People looking at the rugby betting should bear this in mind.

Should the French manage to go all and out and win the tournament in style, regaining the trophy that they lost last year much to England fans’ delight, they’ll not only have sent a message to the teams in the northern hemisphere that they are still a major force, but will have shown the likes of South Africa and world champions New Zealand that they won’t be a pushover next time they clash in competitive action.
