Godolphin targets the trainers’ championship
Posted on | February 1, 2012 | No Comments
Godolphin have always been known for having plenty of horses in training and this season one of their trainers – Mahmood Al Zarooni – in the UK will have an amazing 300 horses at his disposal for the coming flat season. In just his second season training last year Al Zarooni finished fifth in the trainers’ table, amassing a total of £1,870,151 in win and place prize-money, this looks like an obvious bid by the Goldolphin operation to land the British trainers’ championship a feat they last accomplished in 2004 when their other UK based trainer Saeed Bin Suroor took the most recent of his four titles.
This looks as though it may well be a shift by Godolphin and Sheikh Mohammed towards Al Zarooni and away from Bin Suroor, a move that has been on the cards ever since he was installed as Godolphin’s second trainer in April 2010. Blue Bunting, the ill-fated Rewilding and Lyric Of Light shared six Group 1 wins between them last season, when Al Zarooni saddled 81 winners from 180 individual runners. That contrasted with his first season when he landed 45 victories from just 108 representatives. Those looking for horse racing betting tips need to remember this.
He will have plenty of ammunition to go to war with especially in the Classics where in 2012 he will be able to saddle unbeaten fillies Lyric Of Light and Discourse, both of whom who figure prominently in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas betting. Add in the fact that Investec Derby hope Mandaean, winner of the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud for Andre Fabre has also joined the team you can see that the Al Zarooni team have very strong prospects at the top level. Fans of online racing should bear this in mind.
Goldolphin are certain to have some other stars among the Al Zarooni team and he looks sure to have the dominant “Boys In Blue” team in 2012, especially as his counterpart Bin Suroor registered just 58 domestic victories in 2011, his lowest total since 2008. The balance of power appears to have shifted between the two and with the 300 horses at his disposal Al Zarooni will be hoping that he can land his trainers’ championship especially with those Classic prospects.
