Robertson goes from strength to strength

Neil Roberson’s start to 2012 goes from strength to strength as the Aussie secured his place at this year’s Winners Group of Championship Snooker following victory at the Group 3 event at Crondon Park Golf Club. The recent Masters champion claimed the victory courtesy of a 3-2 victory against world number one Mark Selby over the best of five-frames, meaning he will now face Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy in the Winners Group.
Four wins in his final group matches meant Robertson progressed to the next round in third place, resulting in a semi-final against Matthew Stevens. The Welshman put up a valiant battle against his in-form opponent, but Robertson is full of momentum at the moment and the world number four proved too strong for Stevens to earn his spot in the final against Selby. Anyone following the snooker betting will have been impressed.
Both Selby and Robertson have been in encouraging form since the turn of the year and that was evident as the two slugged out an even final. It was the Aussie that claimed the opening frame after he took advantage of a shaky start by Selby, winning the frame 82-8. The second set went to Selby as he got himself back into the tie, comprehensively taking the frame away from Robertson 0-72.
The final continued its back-and-forth nature to take the match into a deciding fifth frame, in which Robertson produced a scintillating clearance of 72 to claim the critical frame 79-27. Fans of Betfair will have been pleased by the high quality snooker on show.
The victory comes on the back of Robertson’s stunning victory at the Masters in January, taking the Aussie’s record to six major titles. Robertson will now go into this month’s German Masters full of confidence, where the 29-year old will be hoping to improve on his disappointing first-round exit last year.
