New York Yankees at Texas Rangers

This match up features a good team in the Yankees against a currently hot team in the Rangers. The Yankees are sending veteran Mike Mussina to the mound while the Rangers are countering with Vecente Padilla. The under/over for this game is 10.5 and the Yankees are a -141 favorite. While the Yankees are coming off of a two game sweep against the Devil Rays, the Rangers have put together a six game winning streak.
The Rangers are scoring 4.2 runs per game, but they have scored 5.8 runs per game on their current winning streak. In their last six games, the Rangers have beat Tampa Bay, Baltimore and the Indians twice each. Padilla has faced some decent opposition at home this season in the Tigers, Red Sox and A’s. His home ERA is 3.06. Padilla has not faced the Yankees this year or last year.
The Yankees, with their hall of fame lineup, are scoring a pitiful 3.69 runs per game. However, they have increased their output to 6.2 runs per game over the last 10 games and appear to be trending upwards. Even if you reduce their 17 run game against Toronto, they are still above 5 runs per game. Mussina has had 4 road appearances and he is pitching very well. His road ERA is only 2.67. Last season Mussina had two appearances against the Rangers and he owned them. He gave up just three runs over two games and 13.1 innings.
Bottom line, I am going to take the Yankees in this one. They are the more talented team and tonight they have a great pitcher on the mound. To top it all off, they are only a -141 favorite.
