MLB: Day One Hundred and Thirty

On Monday I went through and took a look at all the teams in the American League and set up the races. I was going to cover the National League on Tuesday but with the homerun record being broken I focused on that instead. So, today let’s take a look at each division in the National League.
The National League East continues to be mainly a three team race. The New York Mets are on top as they have been for the last several weeks. The Mets have a slightly comfortable lead over the second place Atlanta Braves right now. The Braves currently stand three and a half games behind the Mets. Then the Phillies are only four games out of first place. The last two teams in the NL East are the Florida Marlins and the Washington Nationals. Both of those teams are eleven and a half games back.
In the National League Central there’s a great race going on. The Milwaukee Brewers started the year off very hot and looked like they might just run away with the division. Now the Chicago Cubs have made a charge. As things stand right now, the Brewers still hold a half game lead over the Cubs. Five and a half games back are the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards should not be counted out. Then at the bottom of the division and probably out of it for this year are the Houston Astros, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Finally, we come to one of the more interesting races in Major League Baseball. This is a race that looked for the world like it would be a tight four team race all the way until the end of the season. But recently the Arizona Diamondbacks have begun to distance themselves from the rest of the division.
The D-Backs hold a three game lead over the San Diego Padres and a five game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies. Then the San Francisco Giants are a distant fourteen and a half games back.
So it’s still a four game race in the NL West but it’s beginning to look like Arizona may run away from it. In fact, right now, the Diamondbacks are looking like they may be the best team in the entire National League.
