MLB: Day Fifty-Two
The Yankees assault on chasing down the Red Sox was dealt a set back on Tuesday. After earning a big win on Monday night, the Yankees were beaten easily on Tuesday night.
The Red Sox started the scoring barrage when Manny Ramirez hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 1st. Then Boston went on to win the game 7-3. Julian Taverez earned the win while Mike Mussina took the loss.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves spanked the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The Braves scored 5 runs in the first 4 innings and then they never looked back. The Braves won easily 8-1. Jorge Sosa took the loss and Kyle Davies earned the win.
Since the beginning of the season these 2 teams have been battling it out to for the top spot in the National League East. Lately the New York Mets have seemed to be taking control a little bit. In fact, the Mets have played like they are the best team in the National League and possibly the best team in the Majors. However, on Tuesday the Braves were able to gain a game on the Mets. The Braves still trail the Mets in the NL East.
In Kansas City, the Cleveland Indians seemingly let a game slip away to the lowly Royals. The Indians led the game 3-0 going into the bottom of the 5th. The Royals haven’t been able to come back on anyone this year, never mind coming back against the AL’s 2nd best team. However, come back is what the Royals did.
Kansas City scored a run in the bottom of the 5th, two runs in the bottom of the 6th, and the winning run in the bottom of the 7th. The Royals won the game 4-3.
Cleveland still holds 1st place in the American League Central because the Detroit Tigers lost to the Los Angeles Angels 6-3. The Angels were in control the entire game but the Tigers managed to make it interesting in the bottom of the 9th. They loaded the bases but could not get the hit they needed to tie-up the game.
The Indians will try to get back on track on Wednesday and so will the Tigers. These 2 teams are preparing to meet each other in a weekend series that should help determine a frontrunner for who will win the AL Central.
