This is going to be one heck of a difficult match to call. Both teams are doing very well for themselves, especially Sevilla. UEFA cup champions, qualified for the final of the King’s cup, and still in with a pretty good chance of winning the league title. It has been an amazing season for the Andalucian side, and one wonders how long they can keep up their great football. At the weekend they did look tired, especially after going behind to Deportivo. But such is the confidence and desire to win of this squad that they managed to score two goals in the last fifteen minutes to turn the tables around and take all three points home with them.
Historically, things couldn’t be more even. Of the nine encounters between these two sides in the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium, Sevilla have won three, drawn three and lost three. Earlier in the season, Zaragoza gave Sevilla a run for their money and beat them two goals to one. If there is any team left who can beat this Sevilla side, then it would have to be Zaragoza. A Zaragoza who prepare to go into the end of the season with some very important games; first away to Sevilla, then at home to Real Madrid, and finally a difficult away game to Recreativo de Huelva. They need another three points to really assure themselves a UEFA cup place next year, but what they really want is to win a place in the lucrative Champions league. With Valencia occupying the fourth spot and seven points away, this could be a pretty impossible task for Zaragoza. But who knows, this season has seen so many surprises that anything could still happen.
Zaragoza’s squad will more than likely be the same as last weekend when they beat Athletic Bilbao four goals to three at home. They were cruising to a four – two win but allowed the Basque side back into it late on with some sloppy defending. Diego Milito ended his five game goal draught and will want to carry on scoring against Sevilla too. He is currently to goals behind top scorer Ruud Van Nistelroy and will do anything it takes to get his name on the score sheet.
After a lot of thought I am going for a draw here. Even though Sevilla are in better form at the moment, they are showing clear signs of fatigue, and against a well organised Zaragoza side, they could have problems.
Prediction: Draw (2-2)
