Premiership Tottenham v Manchester City
Tottenham need just one point to clinch a European Cup place, which would be a great end to the campaign for Martin Jol’s team, who have entertained their fans over the season. Manchester City on the other hand are limping over the finishing line with a wide spread belief that today will be Stuart Pearce’s last game in charge, after a torrid season of in fighting, poor displays and an inability to score goals.
Spurs may be hit by injuries to key players, with Jermaine Jenas a doubt after suffering back spasms throughout the week – he is vital to the cause. Ricardo Rocha, Mido, Young-Pyo Lee and Steed Malbranque are also struggling to make the final game of the season.
On the other hand, Manchester City are in disarray with club captain Joey Barton suspended after his part in a brawl at the training ground, Michael Ball suspended for his terrible tackle of Ronaldo last week, and Micah Richards still out through injury.
On the pitch it does not bode well for City with Spurs on fire, banging in goals left right and centre. Stuart Pearce’s team have been very shy in front of goal (they recently set the record for the least goals at home in a season) and are looking for their first away win in six games. Tottenham are benefiting from the skills of Berbatov, who has built up a great understanding with stalwart Robbie Keane – although many are speculating it will be Berbatov’s last game for Spurs, with Manchester United and Chelsea among a host of clubs rumoured to be after his services for next season.
Martin Jol will be keen to finish the season on a high, and with City is disarray few would bet against him. If only Stuart Pearce could instil his never say die attitude as a player into his City squad, things could have been so different. While many fans may be glad to see the back of Pearce, Manchester City’s problems seem to be more deep rooted with silverware but a distant dream for many of their diehard fans.
Forecast : Home Win
