Mark Surridge takes a look at the latest goings on in the NBA
History was made in the NBA this week as the Celtics’ Ray Allen broke Reggie Miller’s all-time 3 point shot record.
Those over at bigfreebet note that Allen’s 2561st career 3 point shot put him ahead of retired Hall of Famer Miller into number 1 of all time.
Allen completed the feat in three seasons fewer than Reggie, playing a total of 300 games less.
Ray will compete in next weekend’s 3pt Shoot out at the All Star event in LA. He will be competing against Boston team-mate and reigning champion Paul Pierce, as well as the league’s top scorer Kevin Durant, Clevelands Daniel Gibson, Miami’s James Jones, and Dorrell Wright from the Golden State Warriors.
Allen’s record came in the Celtics home loss to arch-rival Los Angeles Lakers, who were helped by 23 points from All-star Kobe Bryant.
LA’s up and coming team the Clippers also travelled East to face the much improved New York Knicks, led by MVP candidate Amare Stoudemire.
Stoudemire’s 23 points weren’t enough to stop ‘poster child’ Blake Griffin and the Clippers, who rode out 116-108 winners.
The Clippers continue their road trip Friday with a visit to the Cleveland Cavaliers, owners of the NBA’s worst record, and on the brink of history as a 27th straight loss against LA would leave them with the largest consecutive loss streak in major North American pro sport history.
The Cavs had the best record in the NBA last year, but lost Stars Lebron James and Shaquille O’Neil in the summer, and also parted ways with head coach Mike Brown.
However, big free bet pundits note how current head coach Byron Scott has been told that his job is not under pressure.
One coach who has left his job though is the Utah Jazz’s Jerry Sloan.
The 68 year old hall of famer, in his 23rd season as a head coach, said in a press conference that he had just “run out of steam”.
Sloan’s last game came in a 91-86 loss to the Chicago Bulls. Brit Luol Deng had 8points and 7 Rebounds for the Bulls who remain 3rd in the Eastern Conference.
Until next week…
