Premiership Chelsea v Manchester United

Posted on | May 9, 2007 | 1 Comment

While the title race is over, with Manchester United victorious, there is still the small matter of pride for both teams – although it is not clear how much either team want to win?  The clubs are due to meet in the final of the FA Cup final, and there are strong indications that neither teams will be at full strength.

It looks as though Chelsea will again be without the services of Didier Drogba and Arjen Robben as well as Ballack and Shevchenko, who are both out of favour for various reasons.  Mourinho has promised to award Manchester United the traditional “Guard Of Honour” in recognition of their premiership title, although this may be through gritted teeth!

Alex Ferguson is taking a similar approach to the game, with rumours that Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs will be among a flurry of stars rested ahead of the Cup final.  United have been victorious in what has often been a bad tempered and controversial season, with both sides firing barbed insults towards each other.  Christiano Ronaldo is in the chase to become the top scorer of the season, and is only two goals behind Drogba’s total of 31 goals in all competitions.

Both teams have struggled to reach the finishing line, with some mixed form of late, although Ferguson would like nothing better than to take the points off Chelsea on their home turf.  A few weeks ago this was built up as the game of the seasons, although after last week’s events it could turn out to be an anti-climax.  Then again, this is Chelsea v Manchester United!

Forecast : Away Win

I think Chelsea will nick this one as Man Utd will be resting a lot of key players for West Ham match this weekend. Probably by 2-0 or 3-0 scoreline.
