Bristol City v Leeds Preview

Posted on | February 11, 2011 | No Comments

Both of these sides still have everything to play for, although for Bristol City their season has taken a route that nobody expected. City are still looking over their shoulder although having bridged an eight point gap from the relegation zone, they should now be safe from the drop. Leeds on the other hand need to maintain momentum to keep their playoff place. The Whites have enjoyed a brilliant campaign since their promotion and currently sit in 6th position, four points clear from 7th place.

They were one of the big spenders in the summer, but Bristol City’s season has been utterly dreadful and their supporters probably can’t wait for it all to be over in May. Having now collected thirty five points, they still have some work to do to stay in the division, but it would take some truly awful form for them now to face the drop. The main job for Keith Millen will be to prove he is the right man to take the club forward next season as their supporters certainly won’t be satisfied if they remain in their current position of 18th. Their form of late hasn’t been impressive and having lost four out of their last six, confidence won’t be too stable. On a more positive note, they did thrash Preston 4-0 in their last outing and Millen will be hoping that result sparks a turnaround.

Leeds on the other hand are preparing themselves for a rollercoaster of a campaign finale. The Whites are desperately trying to hang onto their playoff position as Simon Grayson bids to mastermind a second successive promotion at Elland Road. It wasn’t long ago that the club had fought their way up to 2nd spot, but some inconsistent form in recent weeks has plunged them down to the final spot of the playoffs. They approach this game having won two, drawn three and lost one of their last five and while that is certainly not bad form, Grayson knows that they need to up their game if they are to stay in the top six.

Bristol City have been handed an absolutely massive boost ahead of this one as Nicky Maynard makes his long awaited comeback from injury. The former Crewe man has yet to feature this season although he will probably have to be contempt with a place on the bench. Leeds meanwhile will be missing Paul Connolly and Sanchez Watt who are both hindered by hamstring problems. Simon Grayson is hopeful of including Eric Lichaj however, who only recently joined the club on loan.

Both of these sides enter this fixture with slightly indifferent form and with that, our prediction will be a draw. In a game definitely appealing to the neutral, we’ll predict a 2-2 score line in this encounter.
