Another Lesson in Value
Today, there was another lesson in playing for value. If you remember, we began talking about getting value when one team is obviously better than the other. Today, there was a game that fit this bill. One of the worst teams in the league, the Kansas City Royals, came into Chicago to play the White Sox. We all know that the White Sox are a pretty good club. As a result, the line was extremely hefty today. Garland and the White Sox were a -240 favorite at home against the miserable Royals.
As you should know by now, only amateur sports bettors would make this play. Sports books live off of sports bettors who play poor value games. This game is tough to pass up though. Everyone who has at least looked at the standings knows that the White Sox are a superior team. So how do we capitalize on this match up without giving up value? The answer is the Run Line (see my Getting Martinez on the Cheap post). By taking the White Sox at -1.5 on the Run Line, we can chop the line from the -240 nightmare to a respectable -130.
Since really good teams tend to beat really bad teams, especially at home, by more than one run, taking the White Sox -1.5 on the Run Line is a great play. The end result is the White Sox winning the game by 3 runs (4 to 1). Good sports bettors took them on the run line and chalked up another win on the sports betting log. The season is going to be full of these plays. Never play a game with poor value and you will be on your way to being a winning sports bettor.
