MLB: Day Thirty-Six

Posted on | May 7, 2007 | No Comments

The past 2 days couldn’t have gone any better for the New York Yankees. They came into the weekend struggling – especially on the mound – and left with 2 wins and a new, old pitcher.

The Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 8-1 on Saturday and 5-0 on Sunday. Chien-Ming Wang and Darrell Rasner, respectively, pitched very well. But their great performances are not what has Yankees fans excited.

On Sunday future Hall of Famer and All-World pitcher Roger Clemens addressed the Yankees crowd from George Steinbrenner’s box and announced that he will pitch for the Yankees. This crowd went crazy because the fans know that Clemens is a major piece of the puzzle for the Yankees turning things around and possibly winning another World Series Championship.

Now the Yankees have Mike Mussina back, Chien-Ming Wang has been pitching great, the bats have come alive, and Roger Clemens will anchor the staff. Look out Boston. I’m already excited about seeing Curt Schilling pitch against Roger Clemens. That would be a lot of fun.

The Yankees will spend this week playing the 4th game of the series against the Seattle Mariners on Monday, and then the Yankees will play at home against the Texas Rangers.

Meanwhile, the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves are still playing great baseball and their race for the National League East is getting fun to watch. These may very well be the 2 best teams in the National League.

The team that might just be 3rd best team is the Milwaukee Brewers. It will be fun to watch the Mets and the Brew Crew battle it out next weekend.

It’ll also be fun to watch the Cleveland Indians play against the Anaheim Angels. The Indians are tied for the top spot in the AL Central and the Angels are on top of the AL West. This is a good test for the Indians against a good team. Plus this series unfolds as the Detroit Tigers have closed the gap in the division and tied them in the AL Central.

Other fun things to watch in the near future are: Bonds’s pursuit of Aaron’s record, the Tigers trying to keep their 7 game winning streak going, the Yankees trying to go from the cellar to the penthouse in the AL East, and the Chicago White Sox against the Minnesota Twins.
