Premiership West Ham v Bolton

West Ham are hanging on to their premiership place by the skin of their teeth, and while they are third bottom of the table at the moment, they have every chance of escaping if they can pull off a win today. 

Alan Curbishley has no new injury worries, and while long term casualties Matthew Upson and Danny Gabbidon have been missed, the team have certainly pulled together of late.  How important will that £5.5 million fine be if they escape relegation?

Bolton’s season is coming to a strange end with Big Sam on his way and replaced by his second in command Sammy Lee.  The club are still firmly in the race for a European place but how will the players react to their new manager? Big Sam has been an integral part of the club for 18 years and his influence will be sorely missed. 

While Kevin Nolan is set to return, Bolton may be without the services of Stelios Giannakopoulos and Adboulaye Faye who both face fitness tests, while Tal Ben Haim, El-Hadji Diouf and Nicky Hunt are still absent through injury.

The Hammers are looking for their third successive win, and six in their last eight games and while Bolton will be formidable opposition they are playing with great confidence at the moment.  Considered down and out by many some weeks ago, there was little pressure on the West Ham players, but now within touching distance of safety it is all to play for.

Bolton have a great record against West Ham, but that counts for nothing in the hustle and bustle of a survival struggle.  If the Hammers can pull this off it would go down as one of the greatest escapes of all time, but we will see.
