MLB: Day Thirty-Two

Barry Bonds continues to make a charge for Hank Aaron’s all-time record. The way that he’s doing it is really the best way he can – he’s closing in on the record fast.

By Bonds closing in on the record quickly he shows that he still has pop in his bat and that he is a true homerun hitter. It will also prove to fans that Bonds is able to hit homeruns without being on steroids. Of course it’s never been proven that Bonds took steroids but it’s widely believed that he did indeed take them for several years.

Bonds hit his ninth homer in the 4th inning. It was a 2-run homer. The Giants went on to win the game over the Colorado Rockies by a score of 5-3.

In Boston, Josh Beckett continues to stack-up the wins. He already has 6 wins and it’s barely May. Beckett threw 7 innings and gave-up three runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Beckett fanned 7 batters along the way. The Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 6-4.

Beckett is a perfect 6 for 6 this season. He’s started 6 games and he has 6 wins. That hasn’t been done since Roger Clemens did it for the Red Sox back in 1991.

It will be very interesting to see how long Beckett can keep the streak going. Beckett, along with Schilling pitching as well as he did a few years ago, has the Red Sox in a great spot with very strong pitching.

The Milwaukee Brewers continued to role along too. They won easily by a score of 4-0. The Brewers are threatening to run away in their division – the National League Central. Granted it’s only the beginning of May but the Brew Crew is already enjoying a 5 game lead in the division. Milwaukee has won 4 straight games.  If they open-up much more of a lead the Reds and the Cubs, who are their closest to them, may begin to lose sight of them.

It looks like the race for the National League East is going to be fun and wild all season. Both the Braves and the Mets have been playing great baseball all season. On Wednesday the Mets beat the Marlins and the Braves beat the Phillies.
