La Liga: Real Madrid vs. Sevilla

This is going to be a red-hot match that will almost certainly resolve the question of who will finish the league in a higher position. Both are in third and second position respectively, and both are looking to win the present competition, with in form Real Madrid quickly becoming favourites to lift the trophy. Last Sunday saw Real Madrid obliterate Althetic Bilbao in San Mames four goals to one in a very impressive display. They have been having problems all season but now is when form really counts and it is easy to see they are currently the best team in the league. Van Nistelroy bagged two and is now only one goal behind top scorer Kanute, so there is another added incentive to watch this game. The only down side to the Athletic game was the ridiculous yellow card awarded to a colossal David Beckham, who complained about the distance of the wall in a free kick and was promptly booked for it. However, Real Madrid will almost certainly try to get this discision overturned and he could well start at the Santiago Bernabeu. Right back Cicinho was back in action after a six-month lay off with a knee injury, and he certainly made a good impression, linking up with Beckham to perfection.
Sevilla for their part also won at the weekend. They gave Espanyol a three one hammering at home in what could be the prelude to the UEFA cup final in Glasgow. Both teams reserved players, but for Espanyol it was more out of necessity than anything else. Both Raul Tamudo and Ivan de la Peña are injured and needed to be rested for the UEFA game. They also had a couple of suspensions to worry about. To make matters worse, in the first half and hour of play coach Ernesto Valverde had to substitute two players because of injury and replace them. In the end Sevilla won it comfortably, but they must be aware that the game against Madrid will be a very different kettle of fish.
I am going for a home win in this game. Madrid are becoming stronger and stronger in each game now and you can see they are really hungry for the title. They also believe they can win it. Watch out for Van Nistelroy grabbing a goal or two; he’s already said he wants to top striker award this season, and he just might get it.
Prediction: Home win (3-2)
