Blackburn v QPR Preview

Both of these sides are now seen as two of the richest sides in the country, with both now under the ownership of some exceptionally wealthy people. However, one division separates the two and this will give QPR the perfect opportunity to show why they deserve to gain promotion from the Championship this term.
As Blackburn started the campaign, not one of their supporters could have imagined their season turning out like this. Rovers prepared for this year just like any other, and the vast majority of their support was very happy with the direction their club was heading under Sam Allardyce. However, within the last month all of that has changed and after being taken over, Allardyce was removed from his position and Steve Kean was promoted from within. Since then, Rovers have been linked with some big money transfers and it’s thought that they came within touching distance of landing Brazilian Ronaldinho earlier this week. Their season certainly looks to be changing for the better as well and having comfortably beaten Chelsea in their last outing, they have now recorded two wins from their last three.
QPR meanwhile have led the Championship for much of the campaign and Neil Warnock must hold at least some confidence heading into this cup clash. His side now lead the division by five points although having conceded in the dying seconds of their last game to drop two points, that margin could quite easily be more. However, Warnock will be delighted with his side’s position, especially as their form over the past few weeks hasn’t exactly been inspiring. They’ve lost three of their last six and considering the fact it took them all the way until the 10th of December to lose their first league game, Warnock must still be slightly concerned with their form. If anything, he’ll probably want to get this game over with as quickly as possible and concentrate on their promotion push.
Steve Kean has plenty of injuries to contend with for this outing as Paul Robinson, Steven Nzonzi, Phil Jones, Keith Andrews and Vince Grella all sit out while Nikola Kalinic won’t be featuring due to suspension. That now means that Jason Roberts could get a chance, with the forward appearing sparingly this term. It’s not quite as severe for the visitors although Neil Warnock will still be missing two players. Patrick Agyemang will continue to sit out with a long term leg injury, while Heidar Helguson is kept out with a thigh problem.
QPR may well have launched an emphatic promotion push this term, but we just think the FA Cup won’t be too high up on their priorities. Promotion is the main aim and with Blackburn notching a few good results recently, we’ll go with a comfortable victory for the home side – 2-0.
