MLB Match Up: Astros at Giants Game Two

Today there’s a double header being played between the Astros and the Giants. We are going to look at the second game, which begins at around 9pm EST. The Astros are currently favored (-142) and the under/over is sitting at 7 1/2. The Houston Astros are sending Roy Oswalt to the mound and the San Francisco Giants are countering with Matt Cain. The two teams open up the series by playing two games today.
Roy Oswalt has made two appearances this year, which were against Florida and Washington—two teams that struggle to score runs. Washington, the better of the two teams, roughed him up for five runs , seven hits, two walks and one home run over six innings of work. Against Florida he went 8 strong innings giving up 5 hits and no runs. His ERA is down to 3.14. Today, he faces a Giants team that is a little better than the Washington team that got to him. In this young season, the Giants are averaging just over 5 runs per game. In 2005, Oswalt pitched against the Giants once and gave up 3 runs.
Matt Cain has made one appearance this year, which was against Atlanta. He gave up seven hits, three walks, one home run and four earned runs over six innings of work. Cain is looking to correct the ship today and will have to do it against an Astros team that can put up some runs. The Astros are averaging 5 runs per game currently.
It is worth noting that Barry Bonds is playing in game one and will most likely sit out game two. While Barry Bonds has not done much of anything at the plate, he does bring a scare factor. He has been walked two times on average this season and has accounted for one run per game, which is 20% of the Giants’ offense. It’s something to think about.
