Ipswich out to improve

Roy Keane’s first full season at Ipswich didn’t go as expected. Rather than challenging for promotion Ipswich struggled from start to finish and ended up a lowly 15th in the table.
It took Keane’s team 14 games to record their first league win last term and, although their form picked up somewhat throughout the season, Ipswich drew too many games and never looked capable of challenging for the top half of the table. The Championship betting suggests they’re in with a chance of promotion, but they will need a steel backbone if they are to drag themselves up.
It’s unlikely that the Ipswich board would stick with Keane if this season started in a similar manner. Keane himself would probably fall on his own sword if that was the case, it certainly looked as though he was going to walk away from the club on a couple of occasions during the last campaign. When things weren’t going well at Sunderland, Keane threw the towel in and this isn’t quality in a manager. Teams need to know that when the going gets tough, their manager is going to stand tall and lead them rather than just run away. The Carling Cup betting also suggests they could struggle in that competition.
With Richard Wright leaving the club this summer, Marton Fulop looks set to sign and could start the season as the first choice keeper at the club. The only other new face is left back Mark Kennedy. Ipswich have offered the former Manchester City and Liverpool player a two year contract. The 34 year old only had one year left on his Cardiff contract and the Welsh team have decided to sell now.
