MLB Thoughts

Posted on | April 10, 2006 | No Comments

Ok, we are into the MLB season about a week and I thought we would take a look at a couple of teams making headlines. This next week is going to be great, because we should see the truly better teams start to shape up and the truly weaker teams act more towards their form.

Texas Rangers & Detroit Tigers

It’s only a week into the season and I am already hearing about the Detroit Tigers and their 5-1 record. I watched (thanks to Directv MLB package) the Tigers series against the Rangers and I was left with one question: Are the Tigers this good or are the Rangers this bad or what? Here’s all you need to know about the Detroit Tigers:

1. They played Kansas City for two games and won both against this bottom level team.
2. They took 3 out of 4 from the Rangers—who look to be basement keepers this year.
3. They played their first game against a decent team today (White Sox) and lost.

Add to the fact that the Rangers are losing against the Angels and we have our answer: Detroit is not a good team and neither are the Rangers (at this point).

New York Yankees

Love em or hate em, the New York Yankees have an all-star lineup. But what good is it if their pitching is suspect? Their offense seems to be an all or nothing affair at this point. The 2-4 Yankees have two games where they really scored—10 and 15 respectively. In the middle of those offensive bookends, they were pretty much handled by opposing pitchers. While the media might be quick to point this out and cast shadows on their ability, don’t you forget who’s in the lineup. The Yankees have played the A’s and Angels so far and both of these teams have pretty decent pitching staffs. Next up are the Royals and Twins. Look for some offensive fireworks.

Stay tuned as we cover more action in the coming days, weeks and months.
