Premiership Portsmouth v Man Utd

Manchester United’s annual visit to the south coast has brought a number of difficult games in recent times, with Portsmouth proving very hard to break down at home. While the impressive Kanu, who seems to have a new lease of life, will lead the line, there is some doubt as to whether he will be a lone striker, or with one of LuaLua, Todorov or Benjani.
Kanu has taken the plaudits this season but he has lacked any real support from his fellow strikers, which is a concern. Pompey seem to be full of “big game” players, although the likes of Todorov and Bengani continue to be something of an enigma.
Manchester United return from a hard fought midweek 2 – 1 defeat to Roma, which proved to be a difficult night in more ways than one. However, there is no doubt that Alex Ferguson will rally the troops as we approach the business end of the season, with Chelsea hot on United’s tail. The last few weeks have shown the versatility of United’s squad, which has proved priceless with a number of unfortunate injuries.
Up front, Wayne Rooney is starting to show some form having scored five goals in his last five league and cup games. Couple Rooney’s return to goal scoring form with the excellent Ronaldo, throw in Giggs, Scholes and Solskjaer and the Manchester United goals can come from a number of places. Professional until the end, recent games have seen the Reds come back from one goal down against Blackburn and nick a few goals towards the end in other close fought games.
Even though Portsmouth have only taken two points out of a possible twelve, they are still on track for their highest ever Premiership finish. On the other hand, Manchester United are looking to record their eight straight win, and maintain their six point lead over Chelsea. While Pompey, United games are always entertaining battles, it is hard to see beyond a United win as they march towards the Premiership Title.
