Group D – Ghana vs Germany preview

Posted on | June 21, 2010 | No Comments

Game:- Ghana vs Germany
Competition :- 2010 FIFA World Cup
Venue :- Soccer City, Johannesberg
Date :- Wednesday, 23rd June 2010
KO time:- 20.30 South African time

Group D is very interestingly poised with all four teams having a mathematical chance to go through. Although Ghana and Germany are on top of the group, only one of them will qualify in most likelihood with Serbia expected to defeat the Socceroos in the other game. Read our preview and then move over to PinnacleSports to check the odds they are offering.

Ghana – last few games – most recent game on top
Ghana 1-1 Australia(Asamoah Gyan)
Ghana 1-0 Serbia (Asamoah Gyan)
Ghana 1-0 Latvia ( Quincy Owusu Abeyie)
Netherlands 4-1 Ghana ( Gyan Asamoah)

Milovan Rajevac’s side look very strong on paper but are slightly inexperienced. Their naivete showed as they failed to play the ball around patiently against 10-man Australia and settled for long range drives. They have not scored from open play yet, with Gyan Asamoah scoring from the spot in both games.

Ghana received a boost ahead of the tie with the news that John Mensah and Issac Vorsah are fit to take their positions in the back four. The game would also mark the first meeting of Kevin Prince Boateng and Germany – a country he chose not to represent in favour of Ghana.

Germany – last few games – most recent game on top

Germany 0-1 Serbia
Germany 4-0 Australia ( Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Thomas Muller, Cacau)
Germany 3-1 Bosnia ( Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger)
Hungary 0-3 Germany ( Mario Gomez, Cacau, L.Podolski)

The Germans played most of the game against Serbia with ten men. Miroslav Klose’s red card will result in a start for either Cacau or Mario Gomez. Lucas Podolski, who missed a crucial spot kick against Serbia, will play as the second striker. Ozil, Muller, Schweinsteiger and Khedira will make up the midfield for Joachim Low.

Verdict: Ghana 1-2 Germany (Ayew / Ozil, Podolski)
