Game:- Argentina vs Greece
Competition :- 2010 FIFA World Cup
Venue :- Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane
Date :- Tuesday, 22nd June 2010
KO time:- 20.30 South African time
Argentina might use their last group game to try out a few players and different combinations but it is do or die for Otto Rehhagel’s Greece as they need a win to cement their place in the knockout stages. A draw would also do for Greece but then they would need Nigeria to defeat Korea in the other game. Will the Euro 2004 Champions make the cut? Check out the odds at Centrebet.
Argentina – last five games- most recent first
Argentina 4-1 South Korea (Higuain*3,OG)
Argentina 1-0 Nigeria (Heinze)
Argentina 5-0 Canada ( Maxi Rodriguez*2, Angel Di Maria, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero)
Argentina 4-0 Haiti ( Facundo Bertoglio*2, Martin Palermo, Sebastien Blanco)
Diego Maradona might be tempted to field a second string side to give all his players a run about. But the eyes of the whole world would again be on Leo Messi as he tries to score his first goal at the Cup. Juan Veron could be back in the side after missing the game against Korea through injury. With Walter Samuel’s injury and Jonas ‘Spiderman’ Gutierrez’s suspension, Argentina look a little thin at the back. Nicolas Burdisso and Clemente Rodriguez will be handed starts.
Sergio Aguero could replace Carlos Tevez up front. Martin Palermo is likely to get his chance as well. Javier Mascherano and Gabriel Heinze are on a yellow.
Greece – last five games- most recent first
Greece 2-1 Nigeria (Salpigidis,Torosidis)
South Korea 2-0 Greece
Greece 0-2 Paraguay
Greece 2-2 North Korea ( Kostas Katsouranis,Angelos Charisteas)
Greece 0-2 Senegal
After securing their first ever World Cup win against Nigeria, Greek have to go for broke against the Argentinians. Sokratis Papastathopoulos injury leaves them with problems at the heart of the defence. Captain Giorgos Karagounis and young winger Sotiris Ninis will play on the wings and stretch Argentina. They will provide service to a pretty potent strike force in Samaras, Gekas and Charisteas.
Verdict: Argentina 2-1 Greece (Aguero,Milito / Gekas)
