Game:- Mexico vs Uruguay
Competition :- 2010 FIFA World Cup
Venue :- Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenberg
Date :- Tuesday, 22nd June 2010
KO time:- 16.00 South African time

Mexico take on Uruguay in their final group game at the 2010 World Cup with both teams having one foot in the knock out stages. A draw in this tie would ensure that both sides qualify from the group, but a win is crucial as it would mean avoiding Argentina in the Round of 16. A loss would not be the end of the world for either team, as France would have to overcome the hosts by a sizeable margin and South Africa would be looking to give the fans something to cheer about.

Mexico form- recent games- most recent first

Mexico 2-0 France (Javier Hernandez, Blanco)
Mexico 1-1 South Africa ( Rafael Marquez)
Italy 1-2 Mexico ( Carlos Vela, Alberto Medina)
Mexico 5-1 Gambia (Javier Hernandez*2, Adolfo Bautista*2, Alberto Medina)
Holland 2-1 Mexico ( Javier Hernandez)

Javier Aguirre has to sort out a couple of issues with regards to his starting eleven. Arsenal forward Carlos Vela suffered a hamstring injury and is ruled out of the tie. Manchester United recruit Javier Hernandez will replace him in attack. Efren Juarez is suspended after picking up two yellow cards. Andres Guardado will be more than an able replacement in midfield.

Cuauhtémoc Blanco and Rafael Marquez will equal Antonio Carbajal’s record of eleven World Cup appearances for Mexico if they play against Uruguay.

Uruguay form- recent games- most recent first

Uruguay 3-0 South Africa (Forlan*2,Perriera)
France 0-0 Uruguay
Uruguay 4-1 Israel ( Diego Forlan, Maximiliano Pereira, Sebastien Abreu*2)
Switzerland 1-3 Uruguay ( Diego Forlan, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez)
Uruguay 1-1 Costa Rica ( Sebastien Abreu)

Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez has refuted claims that the Mexico and Uruguay would together scheme to put France out of the World Cup. He welcomes back Nicolas Lodeiro from suspension. It would be interesting to see if Tabarez continues with a three man attack with Forlan playing behind Cavani and Suarez.

Verdict: Mexico 1-1 Uruguay (dos Santos / Suarez)

Very little between the two sides. I’m sitting on the fence. And no conspiracy theory whatsoever.
