Game:- Spain vs Honduras
Competition :- 2010 FIFA World Cup
Venue :- Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesberg
Date :- Monday, 21st June 2010
KO time:- 20.30 South African time
Spain huffed and puffed against the Swiss but the European Champions could not get the ball to go into the back of the net. They need to get their campaign back on track against Honduras else they will be forced to pack their bags for an early exit. Check out the odds for Torres to score the first goal at Bodog.
Spain – last few games – most recent game on top
v.Switzerland – Loss 0-1
v.Poland – Win 6-0 (Villa,Silva,Alonso,Fabregas,Torres,Pedro)
v.Korea – Win 1-0 (Jesus Navas)
v.Saudi Arabia – Win 3-2 (Villa, Alonso, Llorente)
v.France – Win 2-0 (Villa,Ramos)
Vicente del Bosque went with only one up front against the Swiss and the tactic clearly backfired. Fernando Torres should start against Honduras in a 4-4-2 formation with Busquets or Alonso missing out. A host of other changes are expected. David Silva did not perform upto scratch; Jesus Navas could be blooded in from the start. Fabregas and Pedro could be asked to play more pivotal roles right from the beginning.
The defence looks a bit clumsy though and Spain could find themselves vulnerable on the break. Alvarez and Espinoza could get a lot of joy on the right flank against the ageing Capdevilla. Puyol and Pique aren’t the greatest in the world when put under pressure.
Honduras – last few games – most recent game on top
Chile 1-0 Honduras
Romania 3-0 Honduras
Honduras 0-0 Azerbaijan
Belarus 2-2 Honduras ( Julio de Leon, George Welcome)
Honduras 0-1 Venezuela
Honduras will set up their stall to defend against the might of Spain. Mendoza, Chavez, Figueroa and Izaguirre will have to be at their best to keep Spain out. Winston Palacios and Amado Guevara will sit in front of the back four. Carlos Pavon, Espinoza, Alvarez and Nunez will have to unlock the Spanish back four.
Verdict: Spain 3-0 Honduras (Villa,Torres,Pique)
Spain will bounce back strongly after the disappointing result against the Swiss.
