The Boys of Summer Are Back!
What a great time of the year for sports in the U.S.
College basketball’s biggest game is tomorrow night. The hockey playoffs start in about a week. The NBA playoffs aren’t too far off. And, of course, baseball is back!
One of the biggest questions this year will be if any team can duplicate what the Detroit Tigers did last year. The Tigers went from being one of the worst teams for many years to being in the World Series. Is there a team out there that can repeat what the Tigers did?
Speaking of the Tigers, can they repeat what they did last year?
They have all their main players back and they’ve added Gary Sheffield to their line-up. But the Tigers will go as the their pitching goes. Will all the innings their young arms logged catch-up with them this year? We’ll see as the season unfolds.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are loaded again this year and many so-called experts are picking them to win it all this year. But the Yankees haven’t proven they can win anything since they acquired Alex Rodriguez. There’s more story lines revolving around A-Rod than there are stories in Barnes and Noble. How will A-Rod get along with team Captain Derek Jeter? How will A-Rod and the New York fans get along? How will A-Rod play in the playoffs? So many questions to be answered.
Over in the National League St. Louis will try to repeat as World Series Champions. The New York Mets are also loaded to make a run. And let’s not forget about the Chicago Cubs. Could this be the year that the Cubs win it all and break the dry spell? Over the next 6 months or so we’ll find out.
So let it begin. Tonight, Sunday April 1st, the season kicks off with St. Louis playing against the New York Mets. This is a rematch of last years NLCS.
Tomorrow, April 2nd, most of the other teams will play their first games.
I can’t wait to watch all season and be here every step of the way. There’s nothing better than sitting in my recliner on a warm summer night and watching a ball game. I can’t wait.
Let’s Play ball!
