England look a bit thin in defence. Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand is unavailable due to a back injury. Injuries have also kept Arsenal’s Ashley Cole and Liverpool’s Glen Johnson out of the squad. Due to the ongoing Terry-Bridge saga, Wayne Bridge chose not to be selected. In the absence of both Cole and Bridge, Capello has to choose between Leighton Baines and Stephen Warnock at left back.
Steven Gerrard will captain this side. There is no place for Chelsea winger Joe Cole and Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor but Capello has called up Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross and Aston Villa medio Stewart Downing.
England form- last five results- most recent first- England scorers in brackets
England 0-1 Brazil
England 3-0 Belarus ( Peter Crouch*2, Shaun Wright Phillips)
Ukraine 1-0 England
England 5-1 Croatia ( Steven Gerrard*2, Frank Lampard*2, Wayne Rooney)
England 2-1 Slovenia ( Frank Lampard, Jermain Defoe)
Egypt come into this game on the back of a record seventh triumph at the African Cup of Nations. Coach Hassan Shehata has added Mohamed Aboutreika and Amr Zaki to his squad, which otherwise remains the same as the side that triumphed in Angola. There is no place for Mido.
Ghana 0-1 Egypt ( Mohamed Nagui Geddo)
Algeria 0-4 Egypt ( Mohamed Nagui Geddo, Hosni Abd Rabo, Mohamed Abdel-Shafy, Mohamed Zidan)
Egypt 3-1 Cameroon ( Ahmed Hassan*2, Mohamed Nagui Geddo)
Egypt 2-0 Benin ( Ahmed El Mohamady, Emad Moteab)
Egypt 2-0 Mozambique (Mohamed Nagui Geddo, OG)
Watch for Mohamed Geddo- he was the top scorer at the African Cup of Nations and has had a meteoric rise. Geddo made his debut this year and has an incredible scoring record for Egypt, despite making most of his appearances as a substitute.
Verdict :- England 1-1 Egypt ( Rooney/ Aboutreika)
