Egypt were the only team to win all three of their games at the group stage. They brushed aside Nigeria 3-1 in their opening game and followed it up with 2-0 wins over Mozambique and Benin. The Pharaohs were expected to struggle in the absence of Aboutreika, Zaki and Mido, but have been the in form team at this tournament and look set to claim their seventh African title.

Coach Hassan Shehata started with a 5-3-2 against Nigeria, switched to a 4-1-3-2 against Mozambique and returned to the 5-3-2 against Benin. Emad Moteab and Mohamed Geddo have been in fine form, but Mohamed Zidan is yet to get on the scoresheet. Ahmed Hassan has anchored Egypt’s midfield perfectly, and he will get a record breaking 170th cap against Cameroon.

Egypt – recent form – most recently played games first- Egypt scorers in brackets

Egypt 2-0 Benin ( Al Mohammadi, Moteab)
Egypt 2-0 Mozambique (Dario Khan OG, Geddo)
Egypt 3-1 Nigeria (Moetab, Hassan, Geddo)
Egypt 1-0 Mali ( Mohamed Nagui)
Egypt 1-1 Malawi ( Hosni Abd Rabo)

Unlike Egypt, Cameroon have been far from impressive. They were stunned by Zambia and looked unconvincing against both Gabon and Tunisia. The Indomitable Lions have failed to score even once in the first half so far in this tournament, and life could become very difficult for them if Egypt score early.

Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen has employed skipper Samuel Eto’o as his sole striker in all three group games. How the Inter forward fares against Gomaa, Said and Fatallah in Egypt’s defence will have a great say in determining which way this game will go.

Cameroon – recent form – most recently played game on top

Cameroon 2-2 Tunisia ( Eto’o, N’Guemo)
Cameroon 3-2 Zambia (Geremi, Eto’o, Idrissou)
Cameroon 0-1 Gabon
Kenya 1-3 Cameroon (Pierre Webo, Achille Emana, Mohammadou Idrissou)
Morocco 0-2 Cameroon ( Pierre Webo, Samuel Eto’o)

Verdict:- Egypt beat Cameroon on both occasions at the 2008 World Cup. Benguela is known to them because they’ve played all their group games there.

Egypt 2-1 Cameroon ( Moteab, Zidan/Emana)
