Hosts Angola can book their spot in the last eight of the 2010 African Nations Cup if they avoid defeat against Algeria in Luanda on Monday.
Angola beat Malawi 2-0 in their second group game to make up for their disappointing draw against Mali. The hosts took the lead early in the second half through striker Flavio, who headed home powerfully from Djalma Campos’ cross. Manucho’s goal, which came six minutes later, was due to some poor play at the back from Malawi. Manucho stole the ball off Peter Mponda and coolly fired past Swadick Sanudi in the Malawian goal.

Algeria recovered from a shock loss at the hands of Malawi to beat Mali 1-0 in their second group game. It kept Les Fennecs’ hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinals alive.
Rafik Halliche scored the solitary goal of the game on 43 minutes. When Karim Ziani stepped up to take the free kick, there were three Malian defenders between Halliche and the goal, but he still managed to get to the ball and head it past Soumaila Diakite.

Weirdly enough, as these last five games point out, Algeria seem to score in one game, and then fail to get onto the scoresheet in others. But they are playing with a tournament exit looming large and that may just force their players to take their play to a level higher.
