Ivory Coast had plenty of the ball against Burkina Faso, but they simply could not find the back of the net. The Elephants were expected to make mincemeat of the Stallions but now find themselves in a tricky position after the stalemate. Marseille’s Bakari Kone had a host of opportunities to score, while skipper Didier Drogba was unlucky not to be given a penalty after being fouled by Burkinabe player Mamadou Tall.

Ghana were due to play Togo in the first round of fixtures, but will now open their campaign against Ivory Coast. A win for the Black Stars will see them qualify for the last eight.

Ghana have gone with a young squad, consisting of several youngsters who beat Brazil in the finals of the recently concluded U-20 championships.

Rosenborg’s Anthony Annan is an injury doubt, while Michael Essien is not sure to play the entire ninety minutes after arriving late from England.

Verdict:- While Ghana’s youngsters have played with each other in the past, Ivory Coast have their backs to the wall and might just prove to be too strong. However a performance like their one against Burkina Faso could prove very costly for the Elephants.

Ivory Coast 2-1 Ghana ( Drogba, Gervinho/Adiyiah)
